Hello my lovely people. Today I want to be very real with you guys, I kind of suck at winter. No. I just straight up suck at winter. Winter blues, seasonal depression, winter funk, whatever you want to call it, it is a real struggle. I know that the winter blues can be something that effects many people. So I want to talk about it! I think it is about time we start talking about our struggles my peeps. Lets get into it!

This is the time of year when some days you are hanging in there just fine and going about your normal day doin’ your thannng and the next day just feels hard. Things feel extra heavy. Motivation is very low. It is hard to get out of bed and it just feels easier to do nothing. This is something I struggle with on and off all throughout winter.

BUT. I want to share what I have learned over time + what helps put a little pep in my step. Let me remind you, I am FAR from mastering the art of “kickin’ those winter blues right in the booty” but I have learned some things that are good for my heart in this time and I want to share them with you lovely humans.

This one is hard. Some days it is hard to get out of that cozy bed and be somewhat excited about it. BUT I have learned that it is good to get up, take a shower, do your hair, and put on your favorite outfit. You feel good when you look good, its just how it works.  After you are ready, go do your favorite thing! Head to your favorite coffee shop, go walk around your favorite store, meet your bestie for a quick lunch, whatever it might be DO THE THING.

Read / listen / view things that inspire your mind. Blogs, books, social media, podcasts, etc. I love to dream. Dreaming and consuming things that inspire me gives me some hope and things to look forward to. Write down the things that inspire you and make you feel alive. Plan ways you want pursue your dreams and ACTUALLY pursue them my loves.

This is huge for me. To be brutally honest, I usually really try and avoid this one. Because in the moment it just seems easier to be by myself or not have to get out of my stupid winter sadness. But having plans on the calendar is huge. This is something to look forward to when you are having a rough day. Its good to have plans with people you love. We are built for people. So call your homie and put something in your calendar!

As much as I just want to eat 15 cookies a day and make grilled cheese for every meal in the winter, it feels good to fill your body with fuel. Don’t get me wrong, you have to treat yourself to a grilled cheese every now and then for your mental health. But food is fuel. Fill your tummy with things that make you feel good and give you healthy energy. Go to sleep earlier and wake up a little earlier. Workout. Sweating and moving your body feels great. It can be hard to get there, but it is so worth it.

I hope that you can use a few of these things this winter! It is far from easy, but we can get through it together team. I want to start being more real about the “hard stuff”. We all have struggles and things that are “not so pretty”. Seasonal depression is real guys. But talking about it, and sharing wisdom can be so beneficial. You guys are super stars! Lets do this thing.

As many of you know, I just got home from a get away to Southern California with my sweet family. My mom is from the west coast, so I have grown up falling in love with California and taking many trips out there for family + adventure.

With that being said, I thought it was about time I shared a few of my all-time favorite spots to hit. Check it out friends!

Where: Encinitas, CA

What to expect: GUYS. I am all about a solid iced latte, yummy food, and a bomb atmosphere. Better Buzz checks all those boxes in the best way possible. I am slightly basic and PROUD, this place is the frickin’ cutest thing you will ever see. If you are looking for a place to get breakfast or a tasty snack along with coffee, Better Buzz is a great stop.  One of my favorite things about Better Buzz is they use fresh-local ingredients and have gluten free options! BOOYA.

My go-to order: Iced Latte + split the OG Acai Bowl and Bacon Ciabatta Breakfast sandwich with who I am with.

Where: Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, CA

What to expect: This is the perfect area to go on a walk, have a picnic date, or just set up a place to sit and enjoy the INCREDIBLE beauty. It was a little challenging to find parking because it is such a popular spot, but so worth it. There were people sitting on surfboards out in the water watching the sun go down, and that is for sure on my bucket list now.

Where: Carlsbad, CA

What to expect: PRECIOUS AND OH SO YUMMY. I know I talk about the cuteness factor way too much, BUT this place is a Pinterest dream! They have a variety of unique flavors and donuts that are about the size of your head. There are places to sit and enjoy your donuts inside and a few tables outside as well. On Tuesdays and Thursdays they serve gluten free donuts and Wednesdays and Saturdays they serve vegan donuts.  : )

Where: Coronado, San Diego, CA

What to expect: Coronado Island is one of my favorite areas to wander around outside and take in the stunning views around me. The city is full of local shops, tasty ice cream +  restaurants to try, and incredible beaches. The famous Hotel Del Coronado is located on Coronado. Its beautiful architecture is mind-blowing! My family loves to sit on the hotel’s deck that sits over the ocean and buy a snack or drink and watch the waves come in.

Have you ever felt like you were in a season where you are waiting for things to get “better” again? Or maybe you are waiting for things to look “good” again? Are you waiting to get out of a valley?

I am not writing this post because I am an expert, I come to you today as a sinner, struggling, learning, and growing everyday. I have wrestled with these questions for a long time.

Here is what God has pressed into my heart as I have struggled with some of these questions: Who and What is your identity based in?

WOWZERS! This has shaken me in the best way possible. I have always known that our identity should be anchored in our Savior, but deep down in all the hidden not-so-pretty crevices of my heart, was this true?

Here is the unfortunate reality of lives: our day to day emotions, feelings, people and circumstances are VERY unpredictable. How can I expect my heart to stay steady and anchored in TRUTH when it is tied to such unpredictable things?

“I knew I had to stop assessing God’s goodness by how my life felt at any given time. Feelings are broken boards. Only truth is solid, unchanging, and stable through and through.” -Lysa Terkeurst

What is TRUTH?

God’s nature is unchanging. Forever He will be GOOD. His plans are GOOD. His Salvation is GOOD. His grace is SUFFICIENT.  His forgiveness is UNCHANGING.

A life and identity anchored in circumstances and feelings is emotionally exhausting, lonely, and always disappointing.

The human heart is made to run on what it is filled with. If our hearts are filled with doubt, unpredictability, and uncertainty our hearts will have a direct reflection of those feelings. What consumes our hearts will directly make or break our identity.

Now, this doesn’t mean we have to figure everything out or have all of the right answers. In fact, it is the total opposite. This is a true act of TRUST. We sit back and and fully surrender our hearts to His TRUTH.

Recently, I came across this prayer in one of my all-time favorite books, Uninvited by Lisa Terkeurst, that I think is beautiful.

“God I want Your truth to be the loudest voice in my life. Correct me. Comfort me. Come closer. And I will trust. God, you are good at being God.”

Life doesn’t always look picture-perfect. And there are seasons where things might feel uncomfortable, confusing, or just not-quite figured out. But that is where I am learning to chase after His TRUTH. I ask myself, “In this struggle, where is your identity lying?”

Hope you enjoy! x

hello all! It has been a hot minute since I’ve gotten a new post out to you beautiful humans.

With that being said, I am so beyond pumped about this post! We are still in that awkward in-between weather stage here in Nebraska. Some days you are just fine with a long sleeve shirt, some days you have to bundle with cozy coats.

This look is perfect for that in-between day. Layering is always my best friend in the late fall months. Jean jackets are the BEST for layering.

I don’t know about you guys, but whenever I can find something delicious that is also a healthier option, I am fully on board! I have a strong sweet tooth that these energy bites are perfect for. Super convenient for an on-the-go snack, post-workout energy boost, or a late night sweet treat. And the best part about them, they are SUPER simple to make.

1/2 cup of natural peanut butter (I like to throw in a little extra because why the heck not)

Hello all you lovely babes!

I am not letting myself accept that fact that it is already the end of August. Summer always go’s by way too stinking fast, and of course winter seems to last way too long…what the heck is up with that? With that being said, I am wearing my favorite summer products for as long as I can!

Here is one of my favorite go-to outfits for a coffee date, church, or a date night!

rejuvenated + filled with joy.

The last couple days, I got to spend the week with my boyfriend and his sweet sweet fam. After a few days off the grid, enjoying the people around me, and digging deeper into the Word, I was reminded of how important these times are for our souls. These days were simple, yet so freeing + fun. I wanted to share a few of my favorite images from this little adventure. I hope you enjoy. x

Job 11:18-19

“Full of hope, you’ll relax, confident again; you’ll look around, sit back, and take it easy. Expansive, without a care in the world, you’ll be hunted out by many for your blessing.”
